PRT Day: 13/05/13
Good day today despite being a Monday.
Worked Well
· Having basic facts maths as it is familiar to them and consistent (helps on Mondays-must maintain this if not throughout whole week)
· Maths: demonstrating graph line by line on board on graph paper background. They needed to follow step by step
· Shared book-teaching whole class led to good reflection and sharing knowledge
· Continuing to get students on the computers as they wrote out alliterative sentences. Was fun and they are getting familiar with the computers and saving their work.
· ‘B’ reading his novel! Hoorah, his attention was maintained the whole time of SSR.
Not so hot
· ‘C’, he was upset again. Didn’t understand rules (shook his head for no), didn’t know how to further simplify as other classmates seemed to be fine. Found him alone at lunch and he showed me he was having trouble with ‘T’. Invited ‘B’ to assist him
· News: they were just telling silly news and didn’t stop. I wanted to invite the laughter into the room but it carried on too far.
· Boys grizzling at each other constantly across the classroom. Trying to pre-occupy them doesn’t seem to assist. Need better solution there.
10/4/13
Successes
· Great connection by chance between family safety rules teaching (KOS) and teaching the 10 Commandments later
· New way of working with ‘C’, actually taking him by the hand to participate in activities, specifying that it is “his choice” whether he has a good day today or not.
· Room change around has worked well.
· Captain Quake quick activity for working on adjectives caught their attention.
· Got group 3 boys to choose novels in library which will help stamina in SSR.
Not so hot
· Worried about some of my language or continually coming down on ‘B’ and not giving him enough praise when he is doing the right things.
